Froggy Day (Gershwin)

Froggy Day: Reimagining Gershwin for the Retro Gaming Aesthetic

This project began as a personal challenge: creating a fresh jazz arrangement for the classic George Gershwin standard, “A Foggy Day.” I’ve always admired the composition and wanted to see how I could re-interpret the interaction between the bass, melody, and drums. Below is a look at the original score for that arrangement:

While I initially imagined a traditional jazz number, the piece took on a life of its own as it came together. I couldn’t resist giving it a “Frogger-esque” twist, realizing then that my affinity for music for games is almost beyond my control—it’s simply how I hear the world.

I eventually leaned fully into the influence and titled the track “Froggy Day.” It’s a playful nod to both the original master and the retro game soundtracks that shaped my style. Enjoy the results!
