Baby (Everything Is Different Now): Harmonic Reversal and Dreamy Sound Design
This piece began as a harmony exercise. I was inspired by the classic $I-ii-iii-IV$ harmonic pattern (famously heard in “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers) and decided to see what happened if I reversed it. The resulting $IV-iii-ii-I$ progression felt incredibly resonant, even in its simplest form.
To bring the theory to life, I “decorated” the progression with some of my favorite production tools. I made heavy use of Erosion—an effect I’m truly addicted to—to add texture and grit. I then layered a melody over the top, which in my mind carried the lyrics: “Baby, everything is so different now.”
The final result is a piece that bridges the gap between technical sound design and catchy, dreamy game music. It’s a perfect fit for a narrative-driven or atmospheric indie project.
Technical Roles: Music Composition, Harmonic Theory, Digital Signal Processing (Erosion), Sound Design.
